Historical background:
The ZiS-S-53 gun became the standard armament of the most popular version of the Soviet medium tank T-34/85. It was developed to increase firepower against new German heavy tanks such as the Panther and Tiger. The barrel length of 54.6 calibers provided the shells with high muzzle velocity, significantly improving armor penetration capabilities compared to earlier versions armed with a 76 mm gun.
