History and background of the Fordson tractor: Fordson is a brand of tractors and trucks that was used for mass production of general-purpose tractors by Henry Ford and Son Inc from 1917 to 1920, and then by Ford Motor Company in the USA and the UK until 1964. Fordson tractors were key in the mechanization of agriculture, replacing horses on many farms.
From 1917 to 1922, the Fordson design for tractors was similar to the Ford Model T for cars – it captured the public's imagination with its reliable design, low price affordable for workers and farmers, and a wide dealer network. Fordson dominated the tractor market from 1917 to 1925 and again from 1946 to 1953.
Fordson production took place in the USA, Ireland, and England. From 1928 to 1939, Ford from the USA exited the tractor market, but Ford from the UK continued production and development of new variants that were widely exported. In 1939, Ford from the USA re-entered the tractor market with a new model under the Ford brand.
Fordson Model N: The Fordson Model N, which is represented in the MiniArt model, replaced the earlier Model F. Production of the Model N began in Cork in 1927 and was later moved to Dagenham in 1933. The Model N featured a 27 HP engine, standard rear fenders, a higher ignition system voltage, and optional pneumatic tires. In 1935, a power take-off (PTO) option became available.
During World War II, the Model N was probably the most important tractor in the UK. The Dagenham plant produced over 136,000 Model N tractors during the war, and Ford from the USA also exported Model 9N tractors to the UK.
