Characteristics of the AH-64 Apache helicopter:
The AH-64 Apache is an American attack helicopter designed to support ground forces in challenging combat conditions. Equipped with two GE T700 turbine engines, the Apache is characterized by high maneuverability and the ability to operate in various weather conditions. Its design includes a tandem cockpit for a two-person crew, which ensures better coordination during combat missions.
The helicopter is armed with a 30 mm M230 cannon mounted under the front part of the fuselage and four hardpoints on the wings that can be equipped with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rocket pods. Thanks to advanced targeting and night vision systems, the Apache is capable of precisely attacking targets both day and night.
History and application:
The AH-64 Apache was developed by Hughes Helicopters as part of the Advanced Attack Helicopter program for the United States Army, aimed at replacing the older AH-1 Cobra model. The YAH-64 prototype made its first flight on September 30, 1975, and full production began in 1982. After Hughes Helicopters was acquired by McDonnell Douglas, the production and development of the AH-64 continued, and the helicopter entered service with the U.S. Army in April 1986.
The Apache has become the primary attack helicopter not only in the USA but also in many other countries, such as Greece, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. In the United Kingdom, it is produced under license as the AgustaWestland Apache. These helicopters have participated in numerous armed conflicts, including in Panama, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Israel uses the Apache in operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, while British and Dutch Apaches have been used in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001 and 2003, respectively.
AH-64A – basic version:
The AH-64A is the original production version of the Apache helicopter. Equipped with GE T700 turbine engines, the A version was used by the U.S. Army until it was replaced by the more advanced AH-64D version. The last AH-64A was retired from active service in July 2012 and subsequently upgraded to the AH-64D Block II version.
