History of the original:

The AH-64D Apache Longbow is a development of the AH-64A, being one of the most advanced attack helicopters in the world. The key element of the Longbow version is the AN/APG-78 millimeter-wave radar located above the main rotor, which allows for the detection, classification, and tracking of up to 128 targets simultaneously in all weather conditions. The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force introduced the AH-64D into service to replace older AH-1S Cobra machines. The first aircraft for Japan was delivered in 2004, and these machines feature specific camouflage and local communication equipment.
