Description of the AH-64D Apache helicopter:
The AH-64D Apache Longbow is an advanced attack helicopter that is an evolution of earlier versions of the AH-64. It was designed to provide an advantage on the battlefield with advanced targeting and communication systems. This helicopter is equipped with two T700-GE-701C turbine engines, which provide excellent performance and reliability in challenging combat conditions.
One of the most distinctive features of the AH-64D is its advanced AN/APG-78 Longbow radar system, located in a dome above the main rotor. This system allows for target detection even behind terrain obstacles such as trees or buildings, significantly increasing the operational effectiveness of the helicopter. This radar is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 128 targets and engaging up to 16 of them in just 30 seconds.
The AH-64D is armed with a 30 mm M230 cannon located under the front part of the fuselage, as well as four hardpoints on the wings that can be equipped with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rockets. Additionally, the Japanese version AH-64DJP can be armed with AIM-92 Stinger missiles for air defense.
History and application:
The AH-64 Apache was developed as a successor to the AH-1 Cobra helicopter under the Advanced Attack Helicopter program for the United States Army. The YAH-64 prototype made its first flight on September 30, 1975, and full production began in 1982. In 1986, the helicopter was introduced into service with the U.S. Army, and its advanced version, the AH-64D Apache Longbow, entered service in 1997.
This helicopter is widely used by the armed forces of many countries, including Greece, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. In the United Kingdom, it is produced under license as the AgustaWestland Apache. The AH-64D has participated in numerous armed conflicts, including in Panama, the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Israel uses the Apache in operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, while British and Dutch Apaches have been used in Afghanistan and Iraq.
