Plastic model kit for assembly: Albatros D.III 1:48 Smer 0816

The Albatros D.III is one of the most recognizable German fighter aircraft from the First World War. This single-seat biplane with a mixed construction (predominantly wood) was designed in 1916 by engineer Robert Thelen at the Albatros-Werke factory. The machine was developed from the successful D.I and D.II designs, offering pilots excellent maneuverability, impressive climb rate, and high resistance to overloads.

Serial production began in 1917, and a total of about 1340 units were built, a significant portion of which were manufactured at the Ostdeutsche Albatros-Werke plants in Piła. These aircraft became the standard equipment for German Jasta units on the Western Front. It was on the Albatros D.III that legendary aviation aces such as Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) and Ernst Udet achieved their successes.
