History and significance of the Ford Model T Ambulance:
The Ford Model T, produced by the Ford Motor Company from 1908 to 1927, is regarded as the first mass-produced car that revolutionized transportation and made it accessible to the American middle class. Thanks to innovative assembly line production, the price of the Model T significantly dropped, contributing to its immense popularity. In 1999, the Model T was recognized as the most influential car of the 20th century.
In 1917, the Model T became the basis for an ambulance, which, due to its lightness and durability, performed excellently on muddy and damaged front-line roads. By November 1918, as many as 4,362 Model T ambulances had been sent abroad, becoming the most commonly used ambulances by Allied forces during the war.
