History and development of the M114A1 howitzer:
The 155 mm Howitzer M114A1, originally known as M1, was developed by the American army in 1941. Its design was inspired by the French Schneider howitzer from World War I. The M114A1 was a medium artillery piece capable of firing shells weighing 43 kg over a distance of up to 15,000 meters. Due to its reliability and effectiveness, this howitzer became standard equipment for NATO artillery and was widely exported to other countries.
After World War II, to extend the lifespan of the howitzer, a series of modifications were made, leading to the development of the M114, M114A1, and M114A2 versions. In the 1960s and 1970s, modernized howitzers were used by South Vietnamese and Israeli forces. In 1982, the American army began replacing them with more modern M198 howitzers.
