Description
Plastic model aircraft kit: Amiot 143 1:72 Smer 0845
The Amiot 143 is a French bomber and reconnaissance aircraft that played its role in the initial phase of World War II. Derived from the Amiot 140 prototype from 1931, it entered mass production in 1934 as the Amiot 143M-4. The machine was characterized by a specific, angular silhouette with a large gondola under the fuselage, which was typical for French bomber designs of that period.
At the outbreak of war in 1939, five squadrons of these machines were in service with the French Air Force. Initially, they were used for reconnaissance flights over the Ruhr area. During the French campaign in May 1940, Amiot 143s took part in bombing German troop columns and transport lines. They suffered particularly heavy losses on May 14, 1940, during raids in the Sedan area, which forced their redeployment to reconnaissance and night missions. After the capitulation of France, the surviving examples served in the air force of the Vichy State.
