History and use of MT-LB:

MT-LB, which stands for "Mnogocelewoj Transportior-Tiagacz Logkij Bronirowannyj," is a Soviet floating armored transporter designed in the 1960s. Its design is based on the chassis of the PT-76 amphibious light tank, which provides it with excellent off-road capabilities and the ability to overcome water obstacles. This vehicle was produced at the Kharkov Tractor Factory and under license in Poland and Bulgaria.

MT-LB was designed as an artillery tractor capable of towing the 100 mm T-12 anti-tank gun, as well as transporting its crew and ammunition. Over time, its use expanded to that of an armored transporter, making it an extremely versatile vehicle. Due to its low unit pressure, the MT-LB is characterized by high mobility in difficult terrain, making it ideal for operations in various conditions.

The vehicle is equipped with a small turret with a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, which allows for a 360-degree rotation and elevation adjustment from -5 to +30 degrees. The MT-LB is lightly armored, providing protection against small arms fire and shell fragments. The armor thickness ranges from 3 to 10 mm, with a maximum thickness of 14 mm on the front of the turret.

Since production began in the 1970s, over 55,000 units of the MT-LB have been produced, which have found use in the armies of many countries. This vehicle was also produced in Poland, where in the 1990s the original YaMZ engine was replaced with the Polish SW 680 engine.
