Historical description:

The Egyptian infantry during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods was a key element of the armed forces of ancient Egypt. The Egyptian army, organized on the basis of a peasant militia, was mainly called up for specific military campaigns. At that time, the Egyptians were not yet familiar with horses and chariots, and their armament was based on weapons made of copper, bronze, and appropriately processed stone.

During the Old Kingdom period (c. 2740 - 2168 BC), Egypt was a unified and centralized state that did not have to fear external invasions. The Egyptian infantry mainly consisted of spear-throwers with shields, armed with spears with stone tips and large leather shields. Commanders used clubs and maces, which also served a ceremonial function.

During the Middle Kingdom period (1938 - 1759 BC), Egypt began to expand beyond its natural borders, which necessitated the development of the army. The infantry remained primarily a peasant militia, but the level of training increased, and military administration was expanded.
