Audi R8 – History and characteristics:

The Audi R8 is a sports car with a mid-mounted engine that debuted in 2006. It is a two-seater vehicle that utilizes Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive system. This model was designed, developed, and produced by Audi Sport GmbH, formerly known as quattro GmbH, and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo and Huracán platforms.

The basic structure of the Audi R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame, which means that the car has an aluminum monocoque built according to the principles of a space frame. Production takes place at the modernized Audi factory in Neckarsulm, Germany, known as Audi's "aluminum center."

The first generation of the Audi R8, known as Type 42, was presented at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2003 and at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in the same year. The official premiere took place at the Paris Auto Show on September 30, 2006. The initial models included the R8 4.2 FSI coupé with a V8 engine and the R8 5.2 FSI coupé with a V10 engine. In 2008, convertible versions known as Spyder were introduced, and in 2011, a high-performance GT model was released.

In this generation, the manual transmission and the V8 engine version were discontinued.
