History of the Avro Anson: The Avro Anson, initially known as the Avro 652A, was developed in the mid-1930s in response to the British Air Ministry's demand for a coastal reconnaissance aircraft. After the prototype's first flight in March 1935, the Anson was selected for mass production, and its name comes from British Admiral George Anson.

In March 1936, the Anson entered service with the RAF as the first monoplane with retractable landing gear. Initially used for reconnaissance operations, it quickly became obsolete as a combat aircraft and was redirected to training roles. Under the Empire Air Training Scheme, thousands of aircrew were trained on Ansons, which became the backbone of the British air training plan.

During World War II, Ansons were used to train bomber crews as well as for communication aircraft. After the war, many were converted for civilian use, serving as light transport and business aircraft.
