History of the B-26G Marauder: The B-26G Marauder was the last modification in the Marauder bomber line, produced by Glenn L. Martin Co. in Middle River, Maryland. This version introduced several significant design changes aimed at improving the aircraft's flight characteristics. The most important of these was raising the wing angle by 3.5 degrees, which facilitated takeoffs and landings that had previously posed difficulties for crews. The capacity of the internal fuel tanks was also increased, and a special ventilation mast was installed on the back of the fuselage. The B-26G version was also equipped with a larger life raft and a new hatch that allowed for its storage.
A total of 893 B-26G Marauder units were produced, which were used by several bomber groups of the United States Army Air Forces operating in Europe. Some of these aircraft also went to the Free French Air Forces, where they were known as "Free French." The French Marauders initially fought in Italy and southern France, and as the Allies advanced in Europe, they were also used in other regions. The last mission of the French Marauder crews took place on April 25, 1945.
