Fun facts about the original: The BAe 146-200 became a reliable workhorse in European regional transport. At AirUK, it played a key role in the development of the British regional route network. The aircraft was particularly valued for its reliability and ability to land at smaller regional airports. With four engines, it offered a high level of safety and redundancy.
History and development: The BAe 146, also known as the Avro RJ, is a short-haul and regional aircraft produced in the UK by British Aerospace, later part of BAE Systems. Production lasted from 1983 to 2001. Avro International Aerospace produced an improved version known as the Avro RJ. Production of the Avro RJ version began in 1992. With 387 aircraft produced, the Avro RJ/BAe 146 is the most successful British civil jet program.
The BAe 146/Avro RJ is a high-wing aircraft with a T-tail. It has four turbofan engines mounted on pylons under the wings and features retractable tricycle landing gear. The aircraft operates very quietly, which is why it was marketed under the name Whisperjet. It is widely used at small, urban airports such as London City Airport. In its primary role, it serves as a regional jet, short-haul aircraft, or regional aircraft, and some examples are also used as private jets.
