About the battle: The Battle of Austerlitz is regarded as one of Napoleon Bonaparte's greatest achievements and a masterpiece of military strategy. The clash took place near the town of Austerlitz (now Slavkov u Brna in the Czech Republic) and gathered around 158,000 soldiers, of whom about 24,000 were killed or wounded. This battle ended with a decisive victory for Napoleon's army over the forces of the Russo-Austrian coalition, commanded by Tsar Alexander I and Emperor Francis II.
After a strategic victory at Ulm, Napoleon managed to outsmart his opponents by simulating weakness in his army, which prompted the coalition forces to attack his supposedly weakened positions. A key moment in the battle was the defense of the villages of Tellnitz and Sokolnitz and the attack on Pratzen Heights, which resulted in the destruction of the coalition center and allowed the French to capture thousands of prisoners.
Historical significance: The victory at Austerlitz ended the War of the Third Coalition and led to the signing of the Peace of Pressburg, which forced Austria to withdraw from the war and recognize territorial losses to France. This battle had far-reaching consequences, including the creation of the Confederation of the Rhine, which weakened the Holy Roman Empire, leading to its dissolution in 1806.
