Description
Plastic model airplane to assemble: Bf 109 G-10 w/ WGr.21 and Full Engine and Weapon Interior 1:35 Border Model BF013
The Messerschmitt Bf 109, designed by Willy Messerschmitt and Robert Lusser, was one of the most important fighters of the Luftwaffe during World War II. This aircraft, alongside the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, formed the backbone of the German fighter forces. The Bf 109 was a versatile fighter that was adapted over time for various tasks, such as escorting bombers, attacking ground targets, and reconnaissance missions.
The first flight of the Bf 109 took place on May 29, 1935, and it entered operational service in 1937, participating in the Spanish Civil War. During World War II, the Bf 109 was present on almost all European fronts and remained in service until the end of the conflict in 1945. After the war, it was used by several countries for many years.
The Bf 109 is the most produced fighter in history, with a total of 34,248 units manufactured between 1936 and 1945. Part of the production took place in concentration camps, which is a dark aspect of its history.
This aircraft was flown by three of the highest-scoring fighter aces of all time, who collectively shot down 928 enemy aircraft, mainly on the Eastern Front. The highest-scoring ace was Erich Hartmann, with 352 victories. The Bf 109 was also used by Hans-Joachim Marseille, the highest-scoring ace of the North African campaign, as well as by many aces from other countries fighting on the side of Germany, such as Finnish ace Ilmari Juutilainen.
