The Messerschmitt Bf 109, designed by Willy Messerschmitt and Robert Lusser, was one of the most advanced fighters of its time. Its design featured an all-metal fuselage, a closed cockpit, and retractable landing gear, making it modern and effective in combat. Powered by a liquid-cooled V12 engine, the Bf 109 was capable of performing various combat missions, from interception to escorting bombers and ground attacks.

The first flight of the Bf 109 took place on May 29, 1935, and it entered operational service in 1937, participating in the Spanish Civil War.
