History and technical background:
BM-24-12 is a multiple-launch rocket system that represented the peak of Soviet military technology in its class during the 1950s and 1960s. This system was developed as a successor to the famous "Katyusha" BM-13-16, which gained the status of a symbol of Soviet rocket artillery during World War II. After the war, to increase mobility and off-road capabilities, the rocket system was mounted on the modern ZiL-157 chassis, known for its excellent off-road properties.
BM-24-12 was distinguished by the use of 12 frame launchers, which allowed the launch of 12 M-24 turbo-rockets. It was the most powerful rocket system in its class in the world from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. Due to its firepower and mobility, the BM-24-12 became a key element of Soviet military strategy, providing large-scale fire support.
