History of the Bofors 37 mm gun:

The Bofors 37 mm anti-tank gun was designed by the Swedish manufacturer Bofors in the early 1930s, originally intended for the Swedish army. It quickly gained popularity and was exported to many countries, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Poland, and others. Licenses for its production were also sold to several countries, allowing for widespread distribution of this weapon.

The Bofors 37 mm gun gained fame due to its effective use in the Spanish Civil War and the Winter War, where it successfully engaged light tanks and armored cars. Although it became outdated as an anti-tank weapon over time, it continued to be used as infantry support due to its mobility, rate of fire, and effective fragmentation shells.

Participation in armed conflicts:

• Spanish Civil War: The Bofors 37 mm gun was first used in combat in Spain, where it effectively penetrated the armor of contemporary light tanks.
• Invasion of Poland 1939: Polish Bofors guns were actively used during the German and Soviet invasions. In the Battle of Mokra, the Polish cavalry brigade used these guns to defeat German armored divisions.
• Invasion of Denmark 1940: Despite the use of only one gun, it managed to damage two tanks and immobilize a third before its crew was eliminated.
• Winter War and Continuation War: Finnish guns were effective against Soviet T-26, T-28, and BT tanks, but proved ineffective against T-34 and KV.
• North African Campaign: British forces used Bofors guns in North Africa, where they were mounted on vehicles to compensate for the lack of QF 2-pounder guns after the fall of France.
