History of Breuer IV

The Breuer IV is the fourth production model of the light shunting locomotive, designed in the 1920s. Approximately 120 units of this model were produced in Germany by 1943. These locomotives were also built under license in various European countries, such as Italy, Austria, Finland, Denmark, and Czechoslovakia. During production and operation, the Breuer IV underwent numerous modernizations, which ultimately led to the creation of model V. Differences between individual units are visible in museums and archival photographs.

The Breuer IV locomotives were mainly used for shunting work in railway sidings and industrial plants. Their compact design and versatility made them ideal for work in confined spaces. Some of these locomotives remained in operation until the 1980s, which attests to their durability and reliability.
