The Bristol Beaufort was a key British medium-range bomber-torpedo aircraft with an all-metal structure, designed in 1936 for Coastal Command. The Mk.IA version was an evolution of its predecessor, introducing significant structural reinforcements and the new Bristol B1 Mk.V turret. These aircraft played a fundamental role in maritime operations, enemy water mining operations, and patrolling shipping lanes in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea.

The 1:72 scale model from Airfix is a detailed replica of this distinguished aircraft. The set is characterized by high quality of execution and precise reproduction of details, including the distinctive dorsal turret. Due to the nature of over-water operations, the original had a special air compartment in the fuselage to increase buoyancy, which has been incorporated into the model design.

History and characteristics of the original:

Beaufort crews carried out some of the most dangerous strike missions of World War II, often operating under heavy anti-aircraft fire.
The aircraft was equipped with radar for tracking submarines and rescue equipment, including an inflatable boat.
Between 1941 and 1944, Beauforts formed the backbone of the Australian air force, effectively combating the Japanese navy in the Solomon Islands and New Guinea region.
Propulsion consisted of engines allowing a speed of 425 km/h, and armament consisted of 4 Browning machine guns and a torpedo or bombs weighing up to 906 kg.
