History and use of the C-295 aircraft: The Airbus C295, previously known as CASA C-295, is a medium tactical transport aircraft designed and initially produced by the Spanish company CASA, which is now part of the European Airbus Defence and Space group. Work on the C-295 began in the 1990s as an extension of the successful CASA/IPTN CN-235 transport aircraft. The C-295 prototype made its first flight on November 28, 1997, and serial production began shortly thereafter. In April 1999, the Spanish Air Force became the first customer, ordering nine aircraft in military configuration.

The C-295 is produced and assembled at the Airbus Defence and Space facility at San Pablo Airport in Seville, Spain. Additional production agreements have been made with some customers, allowing for licensed production in other countries such as Indonesia and India.
