Description
Plastic figure to assemble and paint: Cataphracts 1:72 Zvezda 8067
Set of Cataphract figures in 1:72 scale
The model kit from Zvezda depicts cataphracts - heavily armored cavalry from the period between the 2nd century BC and the 3rd century AD. Cataphracts were an elite cavalry formation, where the armor protected not only the rider but often also the horse. This formation originated from the steppes of Sarmatia and was successfully used by the Parthians, Sarmatians, and later by the Sasanian Persians and the Byzantine Empire.
Main features of the set:
- 20 unpainted figures of riders on horses.
- The set includes various poses, including a commander and a standard bearer.
- Weapons include characteristic long spears (kontos), swords, maces, and bows.
- The figures depict detailed protective gear, such as scale armor and distinctive helmets.
Cataphracts are famous in military history, among other things, for the Battle of Carrhae, where Parthian cavalry defeated Roman legions, and the Battle of Chaeronea. Their charge was capable of breaking through almost any infantry line, despite the lack of widespread use of stirrups at that time.
Set for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including clippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
