The CH-54 Tarhe heavy transport helicopter, developed in 1962, was primarily designed to carry oversized military loads. Thanks to powerful lifting winches, the machine could pick up loads while hovering, without the need to land. These helicopters played a key role during the Vietnam War, where they were used to evacuate damaged aircraft, transport artillery, vehicles, and even patrol boats on external sling loads.

The presented model includes a specialized Universal Military Pod. This was a kind of transport capsule designed to carry infantry, the wounded, or light equipment. These containers were equipped with windows, doors, and a ramp in the aft section, allowing light vehicles to drive inside. A total of 22 such units were built, which could also be used for dropping paratroopers.
