About the ZTZ-99A tank:

The ZTZ-99A, an evolution of earlier Type 99 models, is one of the most technologically advanced tanks in the arsenal of the People's Liberation Army of China. Its production began in 2003, and it entered standard service in 2011. This tank is equipped with modern protection systems, including third-generation reactive armor (ERA) and an active protection system, making it extremely resistant to various threats on the battlefield.

Historical background:

The development of the ZTZ-99A tank began as part of the Chinese five-year plan in 1989. Its design is based on the chassis of the Soviet T-72, but with the use of Chinese components. The first prototypes, known as Type 90-II, did not enter service in China but found export use, including in Pakistan as Al-Khalid.

The ZTZ-99A was officially presented during the Victory Parade in 2015, and it had previously been used by Chinese forces during military exercises under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2014. By 2024, over 1300 units of Type 99 and Type 99A had been deployed in service, forming the backbone of the maneuver forces of Chinese mechanized brigades.
