Historical description: The Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, was one of the most significant conflicts in the history of the United States. During it, there was a clash between the northern states (the Union) and the southern states (the Confederacy). Although the Confederacy faced many problems, including a shortage of military supplies, its soldiers demonstrated extraordinary determination and courage on the battlefield.

The industrial advantage of the northern states was particularly evident in terms of military supplies. The southern states, with less developed industry and subjected to an economic blockade, often had to improvise regarding uniforms and equipment. Confederate soldiers frequently used war trophies and various elements of civilian clothing. Despite these difficulties, their resilience and spirit earned respect even among their opponents. As one contemporary noted, “this soldier is hungry, dirty, wears rags, often has no shoes, but nevertheless is one of the best soldiers one can find in the pages of American history.”
