Description

Plastic model aircraft kit: Dewoitine D-520 1:72 Smer 0837 Dewoitine D.520 was the most important French fighter aircraft at the beginning of World War II. This all-metal, semi-monocoque low-wing aircraft was designed by SNCA in response to the growing threat from the Luftwaffe. The prototype first flew in 1938, and production aircraft began entering frontline units in early 1940 under the designation D.520C1. The heart of the machine was the 930 hp Hispano-Suiza 12Y-45 engine. Although the D.520 was slightly slower than its main opponent, the Messerschmitt Bf 109E, it surpassed it in maneuverability and had a comparable rate of climb. During the 1940 campaign, units equipped with these aircraft achieved 114 confirmed aerial victories. After the fall of France, these aircraft served in the air force of the Vichy State and were also used by the Luftwaffe and the allies of the Third Reich – Bulgaria and Romania. After the war, surviving examples served as training aircraft until 1953. Contents of the model kit:
