Description
Plastic model aircraft kit: Dornier Do 217M-1 WWII RAF Bomber 1:48 ICM 48276
The German Dornier Do 217M-1 bomber was a significant development variant of the Do 217 series, designed to improve the machine's performance. The key change was the use of 1750 hp DB 603A engines, which, combined with four-bladed propellers, allowed the maximum speed to increase to 557 km/h. These aircraft served in the Luftwaffe's bomber and reconnaissance units until the very end of World War II.
The presented model depicts a specific, historical aircraft captured by the Allies in the spring of 1945 in Beldringe, Denmark. This aircraft received British RAF markings and in September 1945 flew to Schleswig, and then to Farnborough airfield in Great Britain. It took part in test flights and displays for a special squadron of captured Luftwaffe aircraft, remaining in the islands until the mid-1950s.
