Description
Plastic military model kit: DUKW 1:76 Airfix 02316V
A plastic model depicting the DUKW - the famous American amphibious vehicle from World War II. This vehicle, colloquially called the "Duck", was one of the most successful universal designs used by Allied forces. Designed in 1942 by the General Motors Company, it combined the features of a transport truck with a watercraft, making it indispensable during amphibious operations, including the Normandy landings and fighting in the Pacific.
The DUKW was characterized by all-wheel drive and a propeller that allowed for efficient movement in water. An innovative solution was the tire pressure regulation system from the driver's cabin, which allowed for instant adjustment of the vehicle for driving on soft beach sand or hard asphalt roads. By the end of the war, over 21,000 units of this versatile vehicle had been produced.
