The original F-15E Strike Eagle:
The F-15E Strike Eagle is an American multirole fighter designed to perform missions in all weather conditions. It was developed based on the F-15 Eagle fighter, and its design was adapted for the Dual-Role Fighter (DRF) program, initially known as the Enhanced Tactical Fighter. This aircraft was designed in the 1980s for long-range, high-speed intercept missions that would not require support from escort aircraft or electronic warfare support.
The F-15E stands out from other variants of the F-15 with its darker camouflage, additional fuel tanks (CFT), and LANTIRN systems mounted behind the air intakes for the engines. Although CFT can also be mounted on earlier versions of the F-15, they became a characteristic feature of the F-15E.
The first flight of the F-15E took place in 1986, and production continued by Boeing after the merger with McDonnell Douglas in 1997. This aircraft became the primary strike fighter of the United States Air Force (USAF) at the end of the Cold War, gradually replacing the F-111 Aardvark. The F-15E Strike Eagle has participated in numerous military operations, including in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya. During these missions, the aircraft conducted deep strikes on high-value targets, carried out combat patrols, and provided close air support for coalition forces. The F-15E has also been exported to several countries and is expected to remain in service with the USAF until the 2030s. Enhanced versions of this model, known as the F-15 Advanced Eagle, are still being produced.
