Plastic model aircraft kit: Fairey Fulmar Mk.I/Mk.II 1:72 Smer 0876

The Fairey Fulmar was a British carrier-based fighter aircraft of metal, semi-monocoque construction, in a low-wing configuration from the World War II period. The aircraft's design originated in early 1938, and the prototype's first flight took place on January 4, 1940. The construction of the Fairey Fulmar machines utilized experience and numerous components from the Battle fast bomber of the same manufacturer. Despite this, the Fulmar proved to be a very easy aircraft to pilot, and above all, it achieved its intended performance parameters.

The aircraft entered frontline service in May 1940, and was withdrawn from service in 1945. During the war, 600 Fulmars were produced in three main variants:

Mk.I - the basic carrier-based fighter variant powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin VIII engine with 1085 HP.
Mk.II - a fighter machine adapted for operating from field airfields, also with a Merlin VIII engine.
NF Mk.II - a version serving as a night fighter, equipped with a Rolls-Royce Merlin XXX engine.

During World War II, Fairey Fulmar aircraft fought primarily in the Mediterranean basin and to a small extent over Ceylon. From 1943, they were successively replaced by Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V aircraft adapted for operating from aircraft carriers.
