Plastic model aircraft kit: Fairey Swordfish Mk.II 1:48 Smer 0818
The Fairey Swordfish is a legendary British single-engine, biplane torpedo and reconnaissance aircraft with fixed landing gear, which played a key role in World War II naval operations. Although its design was considered obsolete at the outbreak of the conflict, the Swordfish (nicknamed "Stringbag" by the crews) proved to be an extremely effective and durable machine, capable of operating in harsh weather conditions from aircraft carrier decks.
The Mk.II version, introduced in 1943, was optimized for anti-submarine warfare (ASW). It was equipped with a more powerful engine and reinforced lower wings, which allowed it to carry unguided rockets. Aircraft of this type became famous, among others, for the daring attack on the Italian fleet in Taranto in 1940 and for participating in the disabling of the German battleship Bismarck.
