Plastic military model kit: Festive Dinner on the Front Line 1:35 ICM DS3532
Warm and nutritious meals on the front line played a much more important role for soldiers than for civilians in peacetime. Regular sustenance in wartime conditions not only allowed for maintaining combat readiness but also had enormous significance for troop morale.
During World War II, the US Army used M-1937 field stoves, fueled by liquid fuel, for cooking. These devices allowed cooks to fry, bake, stew, and even prepare cakes. These stoves were also mounted on the boxes of military trucks, creating mobile field kitchens known as "Kitchen Trucks". These vehicles had raised hoops for the tarpaulin frame, which allowed the cooks to work in a standing position.
Wooden benches, normally mounted inside the trucks, could be placed outside in kitchen versions, serving as bases for pots, baking sheets, and other kitchen equipment. Personnel strove to provide soldiers with a hot meal at least twice a day. Although most dishes were simple and high-calorie, whenever possible, American soldiers were treated to exceptional dishes, such as roast turkey.
