History and significance of the Fiat CR.32:
The Fiat CR.32 was an Italian biplane fighter designed by aeronautical engineer Celestino Rosatelli. This aircraft gained popularity in the 1930s due to its maneuverability and sturdy construction. It was widely used during the Spanish Civil War, where it earned a reputation as one of the best biplane fighters of its time. The CR.32 participated in military operations in North and East Africa, Albania, and the Mediterranean Sea.
Construction:
The aircraft's structure was based on aluminum and steel tubes, covered with duralumin and fabric. The CR.32 had a fixed landing gear with hydraulic shock absorbers and wings of mixed construction. The aircraft was powered by a water-cooled Fiat A.30 R.A. V12 engine, which developed up to 600 HP.
Participation in armed conflicts:
During the Spanish Civil War, the Fiat CR.32 was used by fascist forces and became a formidable opponent for the aircraft of the Spanish Republic. The Italian CR.32 gained air superiority, shooting down many modern bombers and enemy fighters. During World War II, although the CR.32 was already outdated, it was still used in various theaters of war, including North and East Africa.
International use:
The Fiat CR.32 was also used by the air forces of other countries, such as China, Austria, Hungary, Paraguay, and Venezuela. In Spain, a local version of this aircraft was produced under the name HA-132-L Chirri, under license. The Hungarian air force used the CR.32 during the conflict with Slovakia and in the early stages of the war with the USSR.
