Plastic model kit: Fiat G.55 Centauro 1:48 Smer 0802 Plastic model kit depicting the Italian fighter Fiat G.55 Centauro in 1:48 scale. The Fiat G.55 Centauro was one of the best Italian aircraft designs from World War II. This all-metal, stressed-skin monoplane first flew on April 30, 1942, and entered frontline service in 1943. The aircraft was powered by a Fiat R.A. 1050 Tifone engine with 1475 HP, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of around 623 km/h. The main task of these machines in the final stage of the war was the defense of industrial centers in Northern Italy against Allied strategic bombing raids. The G.55 enjoyed an excellent reputation among pilots, who often rated it higher than the German Messerschmitts Me-109, appreciating its handling characteristics and strong armament.
