The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-5 model kit in 1:32 scale from Hobby 2000 is an excellent proposition for aviation and modeling enthusiasts. This detailed set allows you to build a replica of one of the most famous German fighters from World War II. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190, also known as "Würger" (Shrike), was one of the pillars of the Luftwaffe, alongside the Messerschmitt Bf 109.

Model features:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Manufacturer: Hobby 2000
  • Catalog number: 32016

History and achievements of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190:

The Fw 190 was designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1930s and quickly became one of the most important fighters of the Luftwaffe. Equipped with a BMW 801 engine, the Fw 190 could carry larger payloads than its counterpart, the Bf 109, making it a versatile aircraft capable of serving as a day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground-attack aircraft, and to a lesser extent, a night fighter.

The Fw 190A began its operational service over France in August 1941, quickly gaining an advantage over the Spitfire Mk. V, the main RAF fighter, especially at low and medium altitudes. Its superiority lasted until late 1942 when the improved Spitfire Mk. IX was introduced. In November and December 1942, the Fw 190 debuted on the Eastern Front, achieving success in fighter units and specialized ground-attack units.

However, the Fw 190A series had limited performance at high altitudes, which reduced its effectiveness as a high-altitude interceptor. Attempts to address this issue led to the development of models B, C, and D, of which only the D model entered service in September 1944. These developments ultimately led to the creation of the Focke-Wulf Ta 152, capable of achieving extreme speeds at medium and high altitudes.

The A-5 version was developed after it was determined that the Fw 190 could easily carry more armament. The D-2 engine was moved forward by another 15 cm, allowing for a shift in the center of gravity and enabling the aircraft to carry a larger load from the rear.

The Fw 190 was valued by pilots for its firepower and maneuverability at low and medium altitudes. Among the Luftwaffe pilots who achieved many victories flying the Fw 190 were Otto Kittel, Walter Nowotny, and Erich Rudorffer. This aircraft was considered one of the best fighters of World War II.
