Description
Plastic model airplane to assemble: Focke Wulf Triebflugel 1:48 Amusing Hobby 48A001
The Focke Wulf Triebflugel model in 1:48 scale from Amusing Hobby is a unique offering for aviation enthusiasts and World War II history buffs. This extraordinary model depicts the German concept of an interceptor aircraft, which was intended to be a response to the increasing Allied bombings in central Germany. Although a complete prototype was never built, the Triebflugel project remains one of the most fascinating and innovative ideas of that era.
Model features:
- Scale: 1:48
- Manufacturer: Amusing Hobby
- Catalog number: 48A001
- Material: Plastic
The Focke Wulf Triebflugel, also known as Triebflugeljager, was designed in 1944 as a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. Its main task was to provide local defense for important factories and areas that did not have large airports. This design was distinguished by the absence of traditional wings, with all lift and thrust provided by a rotor/propeller assembly located at 1/3 of the fuselage length.
Three rotor blades were mounted on a ring assembly, allowing them to rotate freely around the fuselage. At the end of each blade was a jet engine that powered the rotor. To initiate rotation, simple rockets were used, and after reaching the appropriate speed, the jet engines took over propulsion. Fuel was transported in fuselage tanks and delivered through pipes to the nozzles.
The cross-shaped tail assembly at the rear of the fuselage consisted of four stabilizers with movable ailerons that served as rudders for direction and altitude control. The main landing gear consisted of a single large wheel at the end of the fuselage, while four small landing wheels at the end of each stabilizer stabilized the aircraft on the ground.
The Triebflugel was unique among VTOL designs of the 20th century. Its construction differed from other German concepts and later American tailsitter aircraft prototypes, such as the Lockheed XFV and Convair XFY Pogo. The latter were powered by conventional turboprops and used traditional wings for lift.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
