Fokker E.II Eindecker, Aircraft flown by Kurt von Crailsheim, FFA 53, Monthois, France, October 1915.
History of the Fokker E.II Eindecker:
The Fokker E.II, also known as the Fokker M.14, is the second in a series of German monoplane fighters used during World War I. It was the first German fighter equipped with a synchronized machine gun, allowing it to fire through the rotating propeller without the risk of damaging it. This technological innovation gave German pilots a significant advantage over Entente aircraft, which did not have such a solution.
The Fokker E.II was introduced in June 1915 as an improved version of the Fokker E.I, with a more powerful 100-horsepower Oberursel U.I engine. Changes also included a larger fuel tank and the addition of a headrest for the pilot. Although the design was quite primitive, with no throttle and ailerons limiting maneuverability, the machine gun synchronizer gave it an edge in aerial combat.
Fokker E.II aircraft were primarily used to protect their own airfields and shoot down enemy reconnaissance machines. The German command prohibited flights over enemy territory to avoid the Entente capturing the synchronizer technology. Nevertheless, from August 1915 to March 1916, German pilots flying Fokker E.II dominated the skies over the Western Front, which the British press referred to as the "Fokker scourge."
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
