The Fokker E.III is one of the most iconic German fighter aircraft from the period of World War I. This pioneering monoplane with a mixed construction (a welded steel tube truss fuselage covered with canvas) played a key role in the history of military aviation. It was one of the first aircraft serially equipped with a machine gun synchronizer, which allowed the pilot to shoot through the rotating propeller without damaging it. This solution gave the Germans a temporary advantage in the air, known as the Fokker Scourge.
