The Folland Gnat is a British, single-engine, lightweight, subsonic trainer-fighter aircraft with a duralumin, semi-monocoque structure. Designed by the famous designer William "Teddy" Petter, the Gnat became an icon of British aviation, serving for years as the primary training aircraft for jet pilots and as the first aircraft of the famous aerobatic team Red Arrows.

The 1:48 scale model from Airfix allows for a detailed reproduction of this delicate machine. The kit offers two construction options and two painting schemes, allowing for the personalization of the finished model.

History of the original:
The Folland Gnat first took to the skies on July 18, 1955. Although the RAF did not adopt it for service as a fighter, the training version T.1 achieved great success. The aircraft was characterized by excellent maneuverability and low operating costs. Outside of the United Kingdom, these machines were successfully used by the air forces of India (where they were produced under license), Finland, and Yugoslavia. Indian Gnats gained fame in air battles during conflicts with Pakistan, earning the nickname "Sabre Slayers."

Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. To assemble, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
