History and use of the Folland Gnat T.1
The Folland Gnat was originally designed as a lightweight and affordable jet fighter. However, its true potential was revealed when it became a key element in training fast jet pilots in the Royal Air Force. Introduced into service in 1959, the Gnat was responsible for preparing hundreds of future fighter pilots over two decades. Its small size and excellent flying characteristics made it an ideal tool for learning advanced piloting techniques.
The Folland Gnat was not only used by the RAF but also became an icon in the aviation world thanks to the Red Arrows aerobatic team, which used its version for airshows. Its agility and compact size made it perfect for performing complex aerobatic maneuvers.
