History and background of the vehicle:
The AMR 35 is a French light tank developed in the interwar period. Although its name suggests a reconnaissance function, it was actually a light combat vehicle that mainly served as support for mechanized infantry. The AMR 35 project was initiated in 1933 as an improvement of the earlier AMR 33 model, with the engine moved from the front to the rear of the vehicle to improve weight distribution and reduce noise.
The production of the AMR 35 was delayed due to financial and technical problems, and deliveries only began in 1936. Despite its speed, this tank proved to be unreliable, and its mechanical parts were excessively burdened. In 1937, it was decided not to place further orders, and organizational issues delayed the delivery of some versions until 1940.
During the Battle of France in 1940, AMR 35s were part of mechanized and armored divisions, most of which were lost in the first weeks of fighting. The Germans used some of the captured vehicles in the later stages of the war.
