  • Catalog number: 32010

Possible marking versions:

  • Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, 12./JG 54 Grünherz, WNr. 210129/Red 9, 1945

  • Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, 3./JG 2 Richthofen, WNr. 210033/Yellow 11 (Lt. Hannes Santler), March 1945

Model characteristics: The Fw 190 D-9, also known as "Dora," was one of the most important Luftwaffe fighters in the final phase of the war. The D-9 version was an evolution of earlier Fw 190 models, which were powered by radial engines. Dora was equipped with an inline engine Junkers Jumo 213 A-1, which improved performance at high altitudes, where earlier versions had issues.

Historical features of the Fw 190 D-9:

  • Engine: Junkers Jumo 213 A-1, liquid-cooled, with a take-off power of 1750 HP. By using the MW-50 system, which injected a mixture of water and methanol, the engine power could be temporarily increased to 2100 HP.
  • Armament: Two MG 131 machine guns caliber 13 mm above the engine and two MG 151/20 cannons caliber 20 mm in the wing roots. The aircraft could also carry a bomb or an additional fuel tank on the underwing ETC 504 pylon.
  • Fuselage length: Increased to 10.91 m, which improved the stability and balance of the aircraft.
  • Production: About 700 units were delivered to combat units, although production was higher, but some aircraft were destroyed due to Allied air raids.

Historical background: The Fw 190 D-9 was introduced into service in 1944, at a time when the Luftwaffe needed modern fighters capable of combating new Allied aircraft, such as the P-51 Mustang. Dora was a response to these needs, offering better performance at high altitudes and increased speed. This aircraft was mainly used on the Western Front, where it participated in the defense of the Reich against bombing raids.

Combat use: The Fw 190 D-9 was used in various Luftwaffe units, including Jagdgeschwader 54 and Jagdgeschwader 26. These aircraft were often used to intercept bombers and in escort missions. Thanks to its speed and maneuverability, Dora was a formidable opponent for Allied fighters.
