Vehicle history:
GAZ-A is a passenger car produced under license from Ford A by the Soviet Union. In the 1920s, as part of the modernization of the automotive industry, the Soviet authorities decided to purchase a modern car factory abroad and a license for the production of passenger and cargo vehicles. In May 1929, a contract was signed with Ford Motor Company, which allowed for the production of Ford A cars and Ford AA trucks.
The first Ford A vehicles began to be assembled in February 1930 at the Moscow car factory, using kits imported from the United States. In 1933, a new factory was launched in Nizhny Novgorod, where these vehicles were produced under license.
Although the Ford A Standard Phaeton with a soft top was not best suited to local climatic conditions, it was produced on a large scale for six years. This car became quite common, and some units were used by the Red Army.
During World War II, after part of the Soviet territory was occupied by German troops, many GAZ-A vehicles were seized by the Wehrmacht and incorporated into their service. The GAZ-A in German Service model reflects these vehicles that ended up in German hands.
