History and usage: The PAK 40 gun was designed by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG between 1939 and 1941 and entered service in 1942. A total of 23,303 units were produced, making it the primary anti-tank gun of the German army in the later stages of the war. It was used not only by Germany but also by its allies, such as Finland, Romania, Hungary, and other countries. This gun was effective against most Allied tanks, although it struggled to penetrate the armor of heavier vehicles, such as the Russian IS tanks or the American M26 Pershing.

The PAK 40 was also mounted on various self-propelled vehicles, such as the Marder series. After the war, the PAK 40 remained in use in several European armies, as well as in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
