History and technical background:

Kfz.13, also known as Maschinengewehr-Kraftwagen, was a light armored vehicle designed for the needs of the German Reichswehr. Its production began in 1932 at the Adler Werke in Hanover, where an armored body designed by Deutsche Edelstahl AG was mounted on the chassis of the civilian Adler Standard 6 car. This vehicle was equipped with 8 mm armor, which provided protection against small-caliber fire and shrapnel.

Kfz.13 was armed with a MG-13 or MG-34 machine gun, making it an effective tool for reconnaissance tasks. Although its armor was not sufficient to fully protect the crew, the open design allowed for excellent observation of the terrain, which was crucial in reconnaissance missions.

Kfz.13 was the first reconnaissance vehicle produced on a larger scale after World War I. Between 1933 and 1935, between 147 and 161 units of this vehicle were produced. Although its off-road capabilities were limited, Kfz.13 participated in the invasion of Poland and the French campaign. After 1941, these vehicles were withdrawn from the front and were mainly used for training and security purposes.
