Description
Plastic figure to assemble and paint: German infantry in armor 1:35 ICM 35722
During World War I, the positional nature of warfare and the enormous saturation of the front with machine guns and artillery forced the search for new methods of individual soldier protection. In the German army, the solution became armor made of multi-component steel, known as Grabenpanzer (trench armor). Its production began in the spring of 1916.
The armor's construction consisted of four plates connected by straps, which provided the soldier with limited mobility. The Grabenpanzer weighed about 10 kg, and the thickness of the plates was about 3 mm. It was an effective protection against pistol bullets, shrapnel, and partially against rifle fire. It is estimated that by the end of the war, about 500,000 such protective sets were produced.
