History and development of the vehicle: Leichter Panzerspähwagen, known as Sd.Kfz.222, was one of a series of light armored cars produced by Germany from 1935 to 1944. This vehicle was designed in response to the operational needs of the Wehrmacht, which included reliability, the ability to move across various terrains, and a simple construction. Sd.Kfz.222 became the standard light armored car in the German army until the end of the war.
Sd.Kfz.222 was mainly used by reconnaissance battalions of armored divisions. This vehicle performed well in countries with a developed road network, such as those in Western Europe. However, its performance in rough terrain was limited, which was revealed during the campaigns on the Eastern Front and in North Africa. Nevertheless, Sd.Kfz.222 was valued for its armament and reconnaissance capabilities.
