Historical Background:
The German Army was one of the first to widely use trained snipers to eliminate key targets such as officers, liaisons, or machine gun crews. Although the development of this formation was treated as secondary in the interwar period, experiences from the Eastern Front and clashes with Soviet snipers forced the Wehrmacht to intensify training and modernize equipment. By the end of the war, the German infantry had a significant number of sniper rifles, and the activities of marksmen like Matthäus Hetzenauer or Sepp Allerberger had a huge psychological impact on the enemy troops.
